Once upon a time there was this gorgeous African American girl. She'd look at pictures of supermodels and tsk tsk "What's Naomi got that I haven't got!" She wrote erotic poetry--and she'd stalk around on stage in bell bottomed jeans and gold lame tops growling
"I want to fuck you. I want to fuck you to death." hair standing out Hendrix style.

She wanted to be a Rawk'N Roll star not in that metal lite Janet Jackson style but you know as a noir femme Sid Viscous-- barechested in a white leather jacket and black latex jeans. She wanted to perform on The MTV Music Awards coming out of The Concorde swigging Krut, wearing a pink Chanel suit, which she would proceed to rip to shreds by the end of her performance. (This was pre-Courtney Love) She even wrote Karl Lagerfeld suggesting he use her in his show since she'd be perfect for the golden padlock visual he was entranced with at the time. We thought she was like, such a visionary. Designer Transgression! Haute Couture Rock!. Cool! And then the "Are You Gonna Go My Way" video came out and she was devastated.

Click. There's Lenny slithering around in the trilogy of Mark Romanek opuses udulating in a landscape of youth cult punters and edgy models like Lorraine Pascale referencing Roxy Music's "For Your Pleasure" album cover. Snap--Here's Lenny at a Versace gala mingling seamlessly with the fashion coscegneti, one hand elegantly cupping Claudia Schiffer's ass. Crackle. Is that Lenny giving transgressive in fur coats, silver loafers and no pants to fashion photographer Ruven Anfanador for the Circus sleeveshots? Designer Transgression! Haute Couture Rock! Cool!
Ladies and gentelemen step right up for today we are not here to bury Ceasar. We will not get tangled up in that argument as to whether or not Lenny is an original - artist . Every body knows the music is but the excuse for the fabulous imagery. We are not here to indict this iridescent glamour-boy for being the only LedZepplin/JohnLennon manque nor are we going to have him drink hemlock for subjecting America's youth to the couplet "Don't go putting a bullet in your head/Just turn your life around instead" (Oh....like...OK! )
