Title: Why Thank you!

Why Thank you!
When we complied LISTED: NYC's Vital 100, we did so knowing it would provoke a virulent reaction and, who-weee, true to form, you let us HAVE it.
And you know what, WE LIKED IT! You made our day with your dazzling display of passionate idealism, lingual dexterity and scathing putdowns. You talk like some of the people who write for us.
We especially enjoyed the part about "The mutimedia revolution will not be waged (or won) by models and fashion photographers" followed by the tearful sincerity of "It will happen everywhere where there are smart, creative people reaching out to each other across the net"
So before I take your missive apart point by point, please understand that I do so entranced by your intelligence and outspokeness. We wouldn't waste our time responding were it otherwise.(That's a flash of our characteristic arrogance thrown in for good measure.) All kidding aside, on to the "deconstruction"

1. We are in full agreement that the ideal of multimedia is to empower the common people. We know lots of common photographers, DJ's, designers, promters, dancers, writers, models and musicians. We've watched them deal with being broke, ignored, and under apreciated and all we were trying to do was bring a wider awareness of these new RISING artists to the world of The Net! Or are these struggling young artists exempt from the status of "people". Be careful my friend.

2. As for that Andy Warhol thing? WE HATE ANDY WARHOL AND THE FACTORY and all that assorted vapid gee-wow bullshit. We find all of that silly "transgressiveness" to be so corny!
Its all that Kool-Aid Pop Cutesy Pie Cultural Journalism that drove us from the world of print! We believe in intelligence and in rigor and cultural diversity, not in worshipping drugged out debutante's.Did you see Liv Tyler or Donovan Lietch or any of those Warhol wannabe's in LISTED? We have no interest in that 60's Chelsea Girl bullshit. Like ugh,in alleging that we're Warholian, you are like, totally grossing us out! (As if!)

3. Why are you driving a wedge between models, photographers and downtown clubs on the one hand and smart creative people on the other. Its been a set part of the cultural machine that is NYC for smart, creative people to generate the popular imagery of the day (whether that be in an art gallery, a fashion magazine or a music video) even as they socialize and network in clubs, bars and restaurants. Its not an either/or baby!Nor is it new. And it won't fail either. History will have its way. All we're doing is "representing"

4. And finally concerning our artistic arrogance and fascistic ways, rest assured that NYW is a open forum for discussion and comment (*see our Chat Cafe). To prove our point, we are starting a "feedback" section in Metaculture in which we will print your missive. Still it really cool knowing you stood up for what you believed. That's admirable.
