Whilst night crawling, here a coupla of the ground rules you must live by if you want to climb that foreboding social skyscraper all the way to the icy peaks of penthouse perfection. |
| NEVER | discuss " Deals" in public or drop the names of your celebrity friends. That's such a DEAD GIVEAWAY. Its far more impressive to just wander up to Steven Meisel and do a mwah-mwah. |
| DON'T ATTEND CORPORATE MAGAZINE PROMO PARTIES THAT START AT 6 and end at 9 | Only the desperate do that. |
| DON'T GET A VOICE MAIL | Don't even try it. Veterans WILL BE offended when they hear that little voice mail chime. |
| DO STOCK A COUPLA CREDIT CARDS IN YOUR WALLET | DEAD OR ALIVE. Make a list of restaurants that don't accept your particular brand of plastic. When the bill arrives ,look over at your party and go "Oh goodness me, perhaps I should dash over to my bank machine." If you're in the company of suckers they'll go "Oh nonsense. Next time you can get me." |
| DO SPEND ALL YOUR MONEY ON CLOTHES | Remember your look is more important than rent or food. If you have nowhere to live but look the part a support system will accept you no questions asked. (Its called houseguesting). If all you can afford to eat is pasta-always recall in this world you can never be too thin. Besides nobody here really eats. Except for male models. |
| DO BUY A MOTORCYLCE HELMET. | It makes the leather jeans more credible. |
| DO READ | the following -- The Fashion Calendar--W---Vanity Fair-- Harpar's Bazaar L'UOMO VOGUE /Premiere/Hollywood Reporter/ Billboard/Ad-Week/New Yorker/ and Proust's Remembrance Of Things Past -- or just have them lying around in the bathroom. This is called education by osmosis. Make sure you pick up Entertainment Weekly's Hollywood Power 100 list. Print and study New York's Web Listed-NYC's Vital 100. These is your Art Of War. Your Zen bible. You'll be the delight of the dinner party circuit with your indefatigable source of conversation and gossip. Know everything before everybody.("Oh yeah, Jacques! He used to do PR for Hugo Boss in the 80's) Information is a form of money these days. |
