Anna Sui S/S 2015

No one does bohemian eclecticism quite like Anna Sui. Other designers try but Sui’s take on the genre always feels personal. Prhaps it’s because Sui grew up during the 70s and held icons like Anita Pallenberg and Patty Boyd in high esteem, or because she’s just so damn good at embellishment whatever the reason, Sui understands boho. For spring she revisits the bohemian era, but avoids falling into repetition or nostalgia. Utilizing mixed prints, techno-chic glossy fabrications and a touch of au currant boudoir dressing Sui adds a bit of modernity to her retro favorites. Instead of looking like well preserved vintage finds these youthful pieces seemed rooted in the now. As whimsical as boho babes could be they never had adorable cherub printed dresses like the one seen on Issa Lish, or patchwork fanny-packs like the kind several models sported. Those touches were pure Sui and their lightheartedness only added to the collection’s buoyant spirit. As always Sui’s show was filled with beautiful girls and booming music providing well needed jolt of energy at the end of NYFW.
