Day One- "Barbados Here We Come"
Days: 1 - 2 - 3 - 4 - 5 | Back to intro

Took an early morning flight from New York on Air Jamaica. Very quick as it was direct. Met by Ytannia, our lovely Bajan (local for "Barbadian", rhymes with Cajun) producer of the shoot. Got a wealth of info from her about Barbados.

Older than the United States (!), Barbados is the eastern most Caribbean island. The safest and one of the friendliest, tourism is one of its main sources of revenue.

Checked in at our hotel, the Blue Horizon (Rockley Road, Christ Church). Very, very cute! Colorful walls, very clean cozy atmosphere, friendly staff. The best thing about the hotel? Directly across the street from the beach! Accra Beach is known for its very cool, relaxed vibe- some tourists, some locals, no attitude.

Before we hit the beach though, Ytannia introduced us to "Chefette", the Bajan version of fast food. As the highest per capita chicken eating country in the world, Bajans LOVE their chicken. For those on a budget, Chefette is great, especially their roti (chicken or potato) wrap ($4).

As the next day was location scouting day (meaning: reasonable start time), we all went out to experience some Bajan nightlife, to get to know all the people on the shoot better. The Bajan drinking age is 18 so we were all able to go and hang out.

The rest of the crew: Tom the photographer was outgoing, funny and very talented. Mandy, our female winner, with an angelic face and super bathing suit figure, was part Nikki Taylor, part Angela Lindvall and very sweet. Mario, our dark and handsome male winner, was quiet and laid back but very funny. Ytannia was our awesome producer (and ex-Miss Barbados!) who knew her island like the back of her hand. Matthew was our 1/2 Bajan, 1/2 Canadian, delightful driver/guide/storyteller/part time model..... you name it... he was it! and of course, Brad my boyfriend who I "dragged" along to Barbados for the adventure (and to be the muscle to carry all the clothes for the shoot).

A fairly relaxed night, good chance to get to know everyone.
