What type of make-up do you do?
My makeup style is the clean and polished look. I provide makeup for all arenas in fashion and entertainment, as well as private events. My goal is always to produce what you would see on the “Red Carpet”. I like makeup that one can wear and feel good about how they look. I love the ability to transform an individual. High fashion editorial looks are also a favorite as well.
What is your favorite line of make-up?
Makeup For Ever is one of my favorites, the variety and the quality is excellent for professional use.
What is the one product you use the most?
The product that I use mostly would be my Shu Uemura eye shadows. The color consistency and staying power are great.
How long have you been in the industry?
I have been in the industry for about 17 years. I started young at age 19 (37 now) and love every minute of it. I can truly say I don’t work, I never work, I create.
How did you get your start?
My first big job came by accident. A family member needed a makeup artist for her fashion show which was show casing on”Deco Drive” featuring “Plaid is Back”. At that time I was a salon owner so she felt I had could help out. The show had new designers like Cedela Marley’s “Catch A Fire” line and other up and coming designers. I put together a makeup case in a day with “Joe Blasco” foundations that were on sale and other products. I tore it up at that show. That’s when I realize I had great speed, and fashion and entertainment was my calling. My first job was doing makeup on call for Doral Resort and Spa. I also tried to sell Mary Kay in the late eighties but I was better at application then retail.
Who/Where do you look to for inspiration?
I look for inspiration from within myself, my higher power and my surroundings. I am also inspired by old Hollywood glamour. I often get lost at the book store for hours gazing at old photo’s of Rita Hayward, Audrey Hepburn, Elizabeth Taylor, Lena Horne and so on.
What do you look for in a model?
I look for innocence in the eyes, and good skin is always a plus. But the most important trait is confidence in herself and trust in my ability to make it happen when it comes to beautifying her.
What was your most memorable job?
My most memorable job was my first job as key makeup and hair stylist for a new hair product line packaging. It was my first time putting together a whole crew: hair, makeup and wardrobe. Call time was 5:30 am. As I walked into the large Studio in South beach, I remembered the promise I made to myself a year prior having worked in that same studio as a so called un-payable newbie. I thought wow I’m here, the goal I set for myself has been accomplished. I even had another job at the Miami Convention Center I started two days prior which I had to get another artist to complete. I remember all of the days I created for free, trade for pics. here and there for hours, pushing to get my work notice. I still have very high goals I have set for myself that are unveiling little by little. What I have learned from it all and what I will also keep is to treat every job no matter how big or small as a major production. To work hard and bring a calm, listening spirit. I have learned to allow my work to speak for me, knowing that I am an original.
